THREE CHEKHOV ONE-ACTS, TWO WOMEN, ONE CONNECTED JOURNEY.
The Epic Players of Chicago is preparing a modern, female-centered adaptation of three humorous one-act plays by Anton Chekhov:
1. On the Harmful Effects of Smoking
2. The Nanny
3. A Tragedian in Spite of Herself
In this trilogy, two female actors will appear throughout all three plays, portraying connected characters in three different situations and stages of life. Although their circumstances and relationships change from one play to another, their wounds, desires, frustrations, and quiet struggles against domination connect the three independent stories into a single, universal theatrical journey. The production will combine theatre, live music, poetry, and movement, bringing the three independent Chekhov pieces together as a thematically and character-linked trilogy centered on women. While preserving Chekhov's distinctive world of humor, absurdity, frustration, contradiction, and the quiet struggles of everyday life, the production will offer a contemporary and creative interpretation of his characters and their circumstances.
