Pay: Stipend

Description:

Instrumental Theatre Company is seeking non-union artists for The Trick of Threes by Annika Andersson.

Personnel Reviewing Submissions:
Director: Rebecca Rose Schilsky
Music Director: Am Wyckoff
Producer: Skylar Grieco

Synopsis
Katherine reflects on her time in a (fictional) rural American Christian cult and how she fell victim to her mind, family, and society. It's "Black Swan" meets "Every Brilliant Thing", relying on magical realism, improvisation, audience interaction, and music to tell a heartbreakingly healing tale. It is a story that asks the audience, "What does it mean to be a victim?" and explores the choices people have when reclaiming their story.
This is not a musical, but it heavily features live music.

Seeking:
Katherine: 61 years old; trying to figure out what she believes in; conflicted; commanding
The Voice of Youth: Musician, full of hope, small but mighty
The Voice of Family: Musician, competitive, vulnerable
The Voice of the Beloved: Musician, encouraging, unpredictable
The Voice of Power: Musician, commanding, godlike

The team encourages women, femmes, trans, and gender non-conforming actors to submit for all roles.

The team likewise encourages BIPOC, Latine, and artists from underrepresented / marginalized communities and backgrounds to submit for all roles.

Notes on musicians:
Musicians embody the emotions, stories, and people that aren't necessarily clear to Katherine anymore. Time has mixed the details of her life into dripping melodies that she's hanging up to dry on a music staff. She's not a composer. She's a conductor desperately trying to bring shape to the noise. When the melody falls apart, it isn't because the music has lost feeling. Katherine has lost control of the melody.

The show will incorporate original music and sound-scapes devised by the musicians in collaboration with the Music Director, Playwright, and Director. Presently, the musicians are written as non-speaking characters, but this does not mean non-acting. We anticipate musicians being onstage for the duration of the show.

This is subject to change during the devising process. Music created for this piece will be credited as "devised by the ensemble."

We are eager to work with musicians who are interested in a devising and discovery process. Artists of all instrument types and skill levels are encouraged to submit. If the idea of devising original music and blending it into the story excites you, we want to hear from you.

Performances will all take place at the LFC Center for the Arts, 4702 N Ravenswood Avenue. Rehearsals will be at a northside rehearsal space in the Ravenswood area.

Callbacks: In-person callbacks will be on Thursday June 18th from 6:00 - 10:00 PM. Callbacks will be in small groups of musicians and Katherines. Groups will collaborate to create short sequences of original music that support the storytelling of selected passages from the script.

Compensation Statement: As a company, our goal is to grow and steadily increase our artist compensation on each project to ensure fair exchange for our artists' labor. Instrumental Theatre Company acknowledges that this stipend is below a fair market value for all involved artists and respects any artist who does not feel interested or able to take on this work for the offered rate
