Chicago-based Open Space Arts is seeking collaborators for our upcoming production of SMILEY, a witty, romantic two-character comedy directed by Jack Dugan Carpenter. We are currently hiring for the following stipended, non-union positions:
Scenic Designer
Costume Designer
Non-Equity Stage Manager
SMILEY is a smart, funny, heartfelt contemporary two-character comedy in which a missed online connection leads to an unexpected real-world romance. The production offers strong creative opportunities in an intimate storefront setting.
$300 stipend for each position, with additional compensation if the production extends.
Design/planning meetings begin in May 2026
Build/install and final prep in late May
Tech weekend immediately following Memorial Day
Opens June 5, 2026
Initial run through June, with possible extension dates to follow
