Grove Players is holding auditions for Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike by Christopher Durang.

THE STORY: Middle-aged siblings Vanya and Sonia share a home in Bucks County, PA, where they bicker and complain about the circumstances of their lives. Suddenly, their movie-star sister, Masha, swoops in with her new boy toy, Spike. Old resentments flare up, eventually leading to threats to sell the house. Also on the scene are sassy maid Cassandra, who can predict the future, and a lovely young aspiring actress named Nina, whose prettiness somewhat worries the imperious Masha.

Also winner of the 2013 New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best Play, the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play, Drama League Award for Outstanding Production of a Play.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

WOMEN:
SONIA. Vanya's adopted sister, late 40s-50s. Living with him in Bucks County. Discontent, upset, regretful.

MASHA. Vanya's sister, late 40s-50s, glamorous and successful actress who goes gallivanting around the world.

NINA. Lovely, sincere would-be actress, 18-mid-20s, visiting her aunt and uncle next door. Star struck, earnest and energetic.

CASSANDRA. Cleaning lady and soothsayer, any age, any race. In the original production, she was played by an African-American actress in her 20s.

MEN:
VANYA. Late 40s-60s, living in Bucks County. Resigned to his life, more or less, at least compared to Sonia.

SPIKE. An aspiring actor, 29 or younger, Masha's new companion. Sexy, self-absorbed, but otherwise outgoing and friendly.
