Description:

Oil Lamp Theater is seeking submissions for strong actors with good comedic timing for its production of The Lifespan of a Fact by Jeremy Kareken & David Murrell and Gordon Farrell. Elizabeth Mazur Levin, Artistic Director, will direct. The show will run from March 13-April 6 with a possible two week extension through April 20. Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30pm; Saturdays and Sundays at 3pm; Wednesdays March 19 and April 2 at 11am and 3pm and Wednesday March 26 at 7:30pm.

The Lifespan of a Fact
Jim Fingal is a fresh-out-of-Harvard fact checker for a prominent but sinking New York magazine. John D'Agata is a talented writer with a transcendent essay about the suicide of a teenage boy-an essay that could save the magazine from collapse. When Jim is assigned to fact check D'Agata's essay, the two come head to head in a comedic yet gripping battle over facts versus truth. (Dramatists Play Service)

Character Descriptions
Jim Fingal, 20s, male-identifying, any race/ethnicity. A fact checker who is driven by rules and protocols, and deeply committed to facts, Jim is eager to prove himself, and highly dedicated to getting things right.

John D'Agata, 40s-50s, male identifying, any race/ethnicity. A renowned essayist who is both talented and well educated, John believes in the truth through art. He can be abrasive, sarcastic, and arrogant.

Emily Penrose, 40s-50s, female identifying, any race/ethnicity. The editor-in-chief of a high profile Manhattan magazine, she is a master of multi-tasking and efficiency, and believes strongly in the power of the stories her publication tells.

Auditions will be Sunday, October 20 from 10am-1pm. They will be held at the theater which is located at 1723 Glenview Road, Glenview, IL.

Compensation will be $870. This includes a $150 rehearsal stipend and $30 per performance (24 performances total). If an extension is added actors will be paid an additional $30 per performance.

Time Commitment:

Rehearsals will begin Tuesday, January 28 and are typically held from 7:00-10:00pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings and on Saturdays from 10:00am-1:00pm until tech which begins on Saturday, March 8.
