Galaxy Theater Company announces auditions for the stage version of the classic movie Guess Who's Coming to Dinner adapted by Todd Kreidler. Directed by Lewis R. Jones.

Synopsis: Set in 1967 San Francisco, a young White woman, Joanna, returns home engaged to John, who is Black. Her parents grapple with their hidden prejudices while John's parents also face challenges accepting their son's choice.

All roles are available. Auditions will consist of short monologue sides from the show. Sides will be provided well before the auditions to give time to prepare.

Cast of Characters:
Dr. John Prentice - 30-40, Male, Black. Dr. Prentice is a well-respected medical research doctor who carries himself with self-assurance. He is engaged to Joanna Drayton and he is surprised to find love again after a tragic loss. This role requires some light stage intimacy.

Joanna "Joey" Drayton - 20-30, Female, White. Joanna is a young woman who follows her heart and challenges societal norms. She is engaged to Dr. John Prentice and madly in love.
This role requires some light stage intimacy.

John Prentice, Sr. - 45-60-ish, Male, Black. Mr. Prentice is a retired schoolteacher who is proud of his son Dr. John Prentice.

Mary Prentice - 45-60-ish, Female, Black. Mary Prentice is a dignified, retired department store clerk, who cares deeply for her son Dr. John Prentice.

Christina Drayton - 40-60-ish, Female, White. Christina Drayton is a stylish, practical owner of the Drayton Art Gallery and an understanding mother of Joanna.
This role may require some light stage intimacy.

Matt Drayton - 40-60-ish, Male, White. Mr. Drayton is a wealthy owner of The Guardian newspaper who is seemingly open-minded and a concerned father of Joanna.
This role may require some light stage intimacy.

Matilda "Tillie" Binks - 40-60-ish, Female, Black. Matilda has worked for the Draytons since Joanna was a baby and she is a highly opinionated member of the family.

Hillary St. George - 45-60-ish, Female, White. Hillary is the narrow-minded and outspoken associate director of the Drayton Art Gallery.

Monsignor Ryan - 40 or Older, Male, Any Race. Monsignor Ryan is a longtime family friend of the Draytons. He is wise, friendly, humorous, and genuine.

All actors who complete the contact link will receive a link to schedule an audition time with audition sides. Unscheduled open auditions will also be seen if time allows during audition dates and times.
Everyone who auditions will receive one complimentary ticket to the show subject to availability.
Auditions and performances will be at 100 6th Avenue, La Grange, IL. (A few blocks from the Metra BNSF stop in La Grange with convenient free parking at the theatre.)

Monday, August 12 - 6 PM to 9 PM
Wednesday, August 14 - 6 PM to 9 PM
Saturday, August 17 - 3:30 PM to 7 PM
Callbacks: Saturday, August 24 - 3:30 PM to 7 PM

Stipend: Limited Travel Reimbursement

Time Commitment:

Performances: November 14th-24th 2024 - Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30 PM and Sundays at 2 PM.

Rehearsals will start in September 2024. The rehearsal schedule will be set once casting is completed to accommodate conflicts. It is anticipated there will be no more than three rehearsals a week for two hours or less until tech week. The entire play is less than 60 pages.
