"...The 80-minute production doesn't explicitly copy the old-time radio drama experience (that lane is well filled by the American Theater Company's all-live "It's a Wonderful Life") but the sound mix (Richard Woodbury did fine work) on the Goodman audio play is stellar and the show comes replete with creepy sound effects, those stirring Dickensian-slash-Disney strings and ample reverbs on the various ghostly encounters. And it's a lovely cast: I was especially moved by Jennifer Latimore's Belle, but then the triangular scene between Scrooge, his younger self and the kind woman he stupidly rejects gets me every year. People forget that "A Christmas Carol" is very much a road-not-traveled story, replete with the Christmas fantasy that you can voyage there again."
