Trust Us/Screw You Reviews
Around The Town Chicago- Highly Recommended
"...At the Neo-futurist theatre, my guest and I were led through an alley, to the back entrance of the theatre for their production of "Trust Us/Screw You", a show largely about the history of Chicago and American con-men. We were told before we could even ask that the use of the atypical entrance was a way of creating ambience. Though a somewhat basic tactic, it was also fun and largely effective in a theatre whose idiosyncratic performance space makes traditional technical apparatus such as set and lighting so difficult that they are often underused to the point of being nearly non-existent."
Chicago Theatre Review- Highly Recommended
"...It’s worth noting, as a sort of capstone/disclaimer for this review, that I was the only person who walked out of the theatre with more money than I came with — The Convincer, I believe the term was. Only a dollar, but that is what the program promises: “Come with a dollar, and you just might leave with two.” Still, the greatest con being played on the audience is in slipping them the serious overtones of the show’s final two acts throughout the first as well. Just covertly, of course, so that they don’t notice how they’ve been swindled until it’s too late. And by then, why run to ask for your money back? You leave a little smarter. And maybe having had a little fun in the process."
