The Strawdog Theater Company began life in 1988 using spaces such as the back room of Cafe Voltaire. An ensemble of 30, now entering their 20th season, resides in its own permanent space which seats 80 at 3829 N. Broadway, Strawdog's average ticket is only $20.00 and often offers student and group discounts. Strawdog also has an adjoining exposed brick cabaret space with a Liquor license for late night entertainment ranging from Jazz ensembles, cabaret artists to improv talent. Alum of Strawdog Theatre include Desperate House Wives star James Denton and TV and Cabaret Star Alexandra Billings. Mainstage Productions tend to be darker and edgier than average.
