Once dubbed "a comedy with tragic relief" by Peter O'Toole, the Oscar-nominated star of the film adaptation, The Ruling Class tracks the adventures of Jack, a paranoid schizophrenic who unexpectedly inherits the title of Earl of Gurney. Believing himself to be God and actually sleeping on a cross, Jack spreads the idea of love and charity to his unscrupulous family, who begins to plot against him with dangerous and hilarious results. Goat Song Theatre stages this Peter Barnes-penned satire.
