The Night That Disco Died

The Night That Disco Died

Under The Gun Theater
956 West Newport Chicago

In the 1970s, America had caught disco fever -- but the fever broke on July 12, 1979. On that summer night, the Chicago White Sox capitalized on a growing anti-disco backlash by inviting fans to bring disco records to that night's doubleheader, which would be blown up by a local radio DJ on the field between games. But when tens of thousands of drunk and unruly disco haters showed up, what started as a simple promotion turned into a circus, a riot and the beginning of the end for disco. The new musical comedy The Night That Disco Died at the Under the Gun Theater follows several characters through this absurd, chaotic and hilarious night at the ball game.
