Willa is an elderly woman from Galway living in England. Byron is a young South African emigre. In the unlikely setting of a suburban London nursing home, this pair of unloved misfits discovers that family can be chosen and freedom is for the taking. Chicago Tribune - Somewhat Recommended

"...It's a fairly predictable story, but director Kevin Theis' staging and cast work Aron's script for all it's worth. And though this story is set in the U.K., a study a few years ago found that about 14 percent of nursing home assistants in the U.S. are immigrants. That's a dynamic well worth exploring onstage, and one we don't see often enough."

"...Aron doesn't develop any of her story lines enough to draw us in, though director Kevin Theis and his cast of seasoned professionals do their darnedest to make us care. Belinda Bremner, in particular, plays the elderly protagonist with such winning heart and soul it makes one yearn for better material for her."

Around The Town Chicago - Recommended

"...I really enjoyed the Irish Theatre Chicago production of “The My Way Residential”. Putting a parent into a residential (a nursing home) is never easy. With that issue as the central premise for the play, it could have been a depressing evening. Instead, we saw an irresistibly sweet story, with an unexpected happy ending."

"...This world premiere has much to offer audiences looking for a sweet story that explores the human condition. While Geraldine Aron's cast of characters is comprised of several frustrating two-dimensional characters, the strength of the piece is the endearing relationship that forms between a pair unlikely soulmates. True, Willa and Byron are from two different generations, and they hail from very unique, separate worlds. But through similar life experiences, an abundance of caring and a shared empathy for each other, they choose to become united as one."

"...Families are created in many ways and it's only recently that we recognize the value and beauty of the variety of families in our midst. The My Way Residential, a world premiere play by Geraldine Aron at Irish Theatre, brings this message home with humor, charm and a poignant touch of South African history. Under Kevin Theis' direction, the performances sparkle and the scenes move along briskly."

"...THE MY WAY RESIDENTIAL might not be for theatre-goers looking for a fast-paced, action packed drama with multi-faceted characters. However, it’s good for anyone looking for a lighter show with some comedic and touching moments throughout."
