"...Trotty, a penniless, public messenger is depressed by newspaper accounts of crime and immorality among London's lower classes. He's brought down even further by remarks made by two gentlemen he meets who make the old man, his daughter and her fiancee feel that, because of their social status, their lives aren't worth living. Upon hearing the bells tolling later that night, a suicidal Trotty is drawn to the church tower. There a group of goblins scold him for losing faith in humanity. Like Scrooge's ghosts, the goblins offer Trotty a look at how bleak his loved ones' lives would become without his love and encouragement. Following scenes of helplessness and unbearable sorrow, Trotty wakes in his own home to the bells ringing in the New Year. As Scrooge did, Trotty learns the value of living in the present and helping those less fortunate whenever possible. Only in this way will a brighter future be possible for everyone."
