Target Behavior

Target Behavior

Prop Theatre
3502 N. Elston Chicago

Joining a rich tradition of mental-institution dramas such as One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and Girl, Interrupted, the new play Target Behavior is a sharp-witted examination of life in an adolescent psych ward. After being admitted, protagonist Kendra finds herself trapped in a world of safety scissors, suicide checks, and the therapy games and art projects of an endearing group of fellow patients and their geeky but dedicated counselor. As flashbacks slowly reveal the fractured family dynamics and interaction with an older boy that lead Kendra to her present state, this world premiere at Chicago's Prop Thtr proves itself to be a mesmerizing study of psychological trauma that's unafraid to mine laughs from the darkness.
