 Anne Nicholson Weber talks with director Jimmy McDermott, puppet artist Michael Montenegro and actor Larry Neumann, Jr. about their collaboration on The Puppetmaster of Lodz by Gilles Ségal, currently playing at Writers’ Theatre. They discuss how a novice learns to play a “puppetmaster,” some of the unique capabilities and limitations of puppet work, and the challenges of realizing Ségal’s genre-bending text about a holocaust survivor who cannot be persuaded that the war is over.
