Smokey and the Bandit: The Musical
3110 N. Sheffield Chicago
Take a musical journey back to the '70s, when mustaches were big, high-speed chases were just around every corner, and Burt Reynolds was king. Smokey and the Bandit: The Musical brings the classic road comedy to the stage, featuring favorite toe-tappin' songs from the film's soundtrack. The Bandit is on a mission: haul 400 cases of illegal beer from Texarkana, Texas, to Atlanta, Georgia, in under 28 hours. But his job gets a whole lot tougher when a hitchhiking bride enters the picture and Sheriff Buford T. Justice puts the Bandit in his sights. WeAREproductions, creators of Fleetwood Macbeth and A Nightmare on Backstreet, bring this new musical to MCL Chicago.

"...Timmy Hart Barron plays the good ol' boy Bandit here, Ali Delianides stands in for Sally Field, and Mark Hespen lends his fine, thundering voice to the role of Sheriff Justice. Together, they pilot cardboard cars, bark into disconnected CB radios, and guzzle down truck-stop fare from slight hostesses in huge beehive wigs. Striving for So Bad It's Good points, Smokey succeeds in being almost as fun as it is ridiculous."

"...SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT: THE MUSICAL gives you the heart of the original movie by including famous lines and the basic run down of the story. So if you're a die-hard fan, you'll appreciate all the references from the movie. And on the other hand, if you've never seen it before, you'll enjoy the story with its musical numbers and unique twists as well. All in all, it's a foot tappin good evening out."
