Skooby Don't Reviews
Chicago Tribune- Somewhat Recommended
"...The show's biggest issue, though, is that the jokes are neither as plentiful or cutting as they need to be to keep this thing afloat when the narrative springs a leak or five. That's rare for this company. There are plenty of sardonic lines to go around - a lot of them exuberantly off-color, which is also a Hell in a Handbag staple - but not enough of what's happening is actually funny. The company's typical way with outrageousness somehow makes sense of even the weirdest ideas. That's not the case here. The energy driving "Skooby Don't" is right, but the material misses the mark."

"...Zoinks! This play is, like, totally strange. Hell in a Handbag's totally 100 percent noncopyright-infringing Halloween spectacle turns the TV-comic detective gang into an identity-politics extravaganza, with Scoob-oops "Skoob"-and the erstwhile Shaggy, now "Skaggy," the reliably cis "Daffy," gay "Fredd," and the perhaps asexual "Velva" visit to a secluded inn to track down a monster."

"...It’s a pity, because when Skooby Don’t lets itself have fun, the show is smart, sharp and an honest to god delight. Jones’ Cher especially is beyond reproach. Skooby Don’t would do well to follow its own advice—to stop lecturing everyone else and just live its own truth."

"...Zoinks! David Cerda once again has a hit on his hands. This hilarious new play is both a gay entertainment with a message and an homage to our gentler childhood days of Saturday morning cartoons. All that’s missing is a pair of pink flannel jammies and slippers, a bowl of Cheerios and maybe a shot of vodka to make this show a true LGBTQ nostalgic cartoon comedy classic."
