"...In Barbara Zahora's original adaptation for Artemisia Theatre, a group of Weird Sisters transforms a boorish man into the shrewish Kate to show him what it's like to have his words and wishes ignored in the hopes that once he is restored to himself, he will teach other men what he has learned. It's an interesting premise and the performances are engaging, but the execution is muddled."

"...Dan Wilson and India Gurley make a charming Katherine and Petruchio, but the refreshingly unconventional phrasing and varied vocal harmonies ( very important in a production employing exclusively treble voices ) are the province of the quartet of actors portraying the 16 remaining characters-in particular, Mary Ann de la Cruz' puckish servant, though Veronda G. Carey nearly steals the show as first, the baritone-chested Gremio, and later, a purring bling-bedecked trophy wife."

"...While this adaptation is fascinating and often humorous, it might be more appealing for modern audiences with a few minutes cut from the script. This comedy might even play better as a longer one-act. However, Barbara Zahora's adaptation is funny, moves smoothly through the well-known story and puts a contemporary spin on the original. It gently reminds us that there are certain men who need to be tamed, and not just their female counterparts. Turning the tables was never so much fun."

"...The production itself, however, could use some work. The cast is game, and every actor is able to find some lovely (and really funny) moments throughout. Too often though they are encouraged to go broad. The show's lack of purposeful staging doesn't help either. Most of the scenes involve two or more people standing next to each other, talking half to themselves, half to the audience. Furthermore, The Edge Theatre's proscenium space screams "high school auditorium." "Shrewish" gets great mileage (and a lot of fun) out of fudging Shakespeare's script, but too many aspects of this production feel fudged as well."
