Los Desaparecidos (The Vanished) Reviews
Los Desaparecidos (The Vanished)
Daily Herald - Recommended
"...With clever, witty dialogue and vigorous swordplay that includes rapiers, knives, daggers and shields, the play makes for a thoroughly enjoyable good time."
Chicago Reader - Somewhat Recommended
"...The script, which could use a little trimming, is not always well served by David Woolley's direction: at times the acting lacks the subtlety and variety of Woolley's thrilling, carefully choreographed stage combat. But Stephanie Repin and Meghan M. Martinez are terrific as the two sisters at the center of this exciting tale."
Gay Chicago Magazine - Recommended
"...the commitment and contagious enthusiasm of the adorable cast and humor-infused focus of director David Woolley transcend the idiosyncratic abnormalities enough to carry us away on an adventure that is filled with charming, albeit unintentional, camp. There is something voyeuristically fascinating and childishly intoxicating about people who are bound and determined to do their own thing as well as they possibly can."
Time Out Chicago - Somewhat Recommended
"...Caked as it is in soap, Desaparecidos remains too freshly scrubbed for the persecution—pointedly displayed by a sadistic priest’s exorcism of one sister, Isabel (Martinez)—to have any real edge. In fact, the company could stand to tune up the farcical elements: In the play’s most effective scene, a surrogate lover (Leonard) hired by Isabel’s husband (Paul Martinez) is emasculated when his Zorro-wannabe shtick is unmasked."
