Strawdog Theatre Company presents The Arsonists, written by popular British comedy writer Alistair Beaton. This elegant, witty translation of Max Frisch's 1958 absurdist comedy, The Firebugs, is part moral fable, part black farce. Mild-mannered Mr. Biederman, a respected member of the community, tries to live a blameless life, refusing to acknowledge evil of any kind. The facade comes crashing down around him, though, when he allows two smooth-talking arsonists to move in. Inspired by the Communist takeover of Czechoslovakia in 1948, this absurdist parable satirizes the way in which people can be manipulated into accommodating their own destruction.
