"...It always needs remembering that newcomers knock on Tevye's door each and every night and, every time I see this show and a young face staring at the curtain as eight o'clock roles around, I worry they'll somehow leave without understanding what this show achieves and means to so many Americans, especially those who trace their heritage to such places as tumble-down, work-a-day Anatevka. No such worries here."

"...This Fiddler will stay with you long after Tevye and his family has left the village and reminds you of the importance of the traditions in your own lives that should be cherished and guarded against this bleak modernity we are experiencing."

"...But, powerful as Honzen proves from song to joke to sorrow, Fiddler on the Roof is very much a nearly lost family album, seminal snapshots that stand for so many more perished memories. Happily, Hogenmiller surrounds our earth-father Honzen with a cast too good to close in less than two weeks."

"...Fiddler on the Roof is a classic Broadway musical with a special look and feel that is irresistible to audiences. The melodic songs resonate in the soul and the fate of the Jews of Anatevka foreshadows the Holocaust to come forty years later. The lessons in tolerance still apply today and the strength of tradition is still a vital part of the social order. Fiddler on the Roof gave humanity to these noble ideals. I can enjoy Fiddler every few years; it never fails to move me. Alex Honzen’s empathetic Tevye anchored this brilliant production. The tradition is, indeed, upheld."

"...Cahn Auditorium is a perfect venue for this large and ambitious production. It is skillfully directed and strongly choreographed by Rudy Hogenmiller who deftly transitions each scene/number and the large troupe of cast members are wisely and effectively managed. The music, directed and conducted by Roger L. Bingaman is beautifully performed by a twenty-three piece orchestra . The set by Adam Verness is really quaint and captures the essence of a turn of the century small town in the hinterlands of Russia. The costumes by Jesus Perez and Jane DeBondt are perfect and the lighting by Andrew H. Meyers is excellent."

"...This sumptuously-produced classic of the musical stage unfortunately only plays for a limited time up in Evanston. It should not be missed. This production is a reminder, not only of the glory of Broadway’s Golden Era, but of the bounty of talent that resides in Chicago. For audiences who’ve never seen this classic musical, here’s a chance to experience the show as it was originally intended; audiences already familiar with Tevye the Milkman and his beautifully-told, heartbreaking story of survival, this is the production to see."

"...The Light Opera production should appeal especially to audiences who have seen numerous versions of "Fiddler" and feel the show has nothing additional to say to them. The Light Opera revival displays the musical at its engrossing best. For verification, just ask the enthusiastic packed house that cheered the show at the Sunday matinee. "Fiddler" still resonates with humor, compassion, pain, and human truths, embellished in Evanston by the glorious starring performance from Alex Honzen, who now moves to the front of the area musical theater's ranks of leading men."
