While cult leader James Jones, The People's Temple and the cult's tragic mass suicide at Jonestown are well known -- forever immortalized in the phrase "drink the Kool-Aid" -- the story of the charismatic cult leader's rise is not as widely known. One fascinating chapter occurred in the 1960s and involved black spiritual leader Father Divine, who served as Jones' inspiration. Divine, who claimed to be God, is considered to be the first modern cult leader. Eventually, Jones would attempt to take over his mentor's ministry and absorb his followers into The People's Temple. The Annoyance Theatre's The Raven and the Messenger brings this bizarre true story to life.
