"...Trouble is, R & G don't have the foggiest notion of what's really going on-they're at the mercy of scheming nobles, not to mention their creator, Shakespeare himself. Stoppard cleverly links their predicament to matters of death, destiny, and dramaturgy, though the whole thing remains pretty cold. Beth Wolf's staging for Promethean Theatre Ensemble makes gestures towards a steampunk aesthetic (particularly in Beth Laske-Miller's costume design), but I couldn't tell you why. That baffling concept aside, the show is mostly satisfying, thanks to crisp performances from Nick Lake and Tom McGrath as the title pair."
