"...Music director Fernando Jones ensures that the juke joint melodies played and the character’s delivery display an authentic 30s era blues feel. Toulou and Ace pour their frustrations into riveting tunes that reflect their characters even better than the lyrical dialog. Toulou’s abusive brother (weakly played by Micky Grayer) is the only bumpy spot in the drama. The character’s unleavened evil and creepy actions are hard to watch and laid on a little too heavily. The production’s pace is also a bit sluggish at times, as if the Delta heat has permeated the action and slowed everything down."
