"...The non-Equity Emerald City Theatre production of "Cinderella," now playing mornings at the Broadway Playhouse under the direction of Ernie Nolan, is a very jokey, campy telling of this story, which strikes me as a strange choice for the target demographic of 3- to 10-year-olds. Aside from a talking rat, we've got a couple of guys in drag playing the stepsisters and a prince's valet who seems very jealous of Cinderella, or anyone else who might bring about the loss of his "job" with the prince. I'm all for humor and acknowledging the pantomime traditions of this piece, but, taken together, this trio strikes me as a bit much, when kids would benefit more from seeing more positive gay-parenting role models."

"...Director-choreographer Ernie Nolan is anything but subtle. And the overall design of the show is old-fashioned, with a particularly unfortunate costume for Cinderella that makes her look exceptionally dowdy until the all-important moment of transformation. The voices of the cast (under the music direction of Marta Johnson) are first-rate, but the accompaniment is canned."

"...There's a smidgen of wholesome romance, but the show's main strength is the comic supporting cast: Tommy Bullington and Mark Kosten, in drag, as Cinderella's ungainly stepsisters and Corey Mills and Kyle Michael Kuhlman as rodent-turned-human valets."

"...Surely traditionalists will find fault with this production, but the core material is still there and the original message is delivered without abandon. Moreover, the voices are superb, the ticket prices are more than reasonable and every once in a while it is good to take even children out of their comfort zone and educate them on the different takes on a classic story. Might as well start them while their young!"
