"... The Chicago Dance Crash provides a gutsy, rip-roaring extravaganza with "Gotham City," a full-length dance assault pulsing with fun, energy, great pop dancing and in-your-face acrobatics."

"... The overstuffed plot has a few excrescences and loose ends, and though there's no dialogue—not even speech bubbles—velvet-voiced announcements of possible disaster are overamplified and often impossible to make out. Yet even the show's writer, Mark Hackman, gets in on the dancing, back-flipping as the head of one crew. And his plot twist toward the end is genius, foregrounding the show's implicit comparisons with our fair city. Mary Tarpley and Charlie Cutler ace difficult choreography as the newlywed tourists, Brian Humpherys is delectably creepy as the chief villain, and Paul Christiano takes his clown character exhilaratingly over the top."

"...“Gotham City” is a comic book come alive in an explosion of dance so dynamic you can see the “POW!” and “BAM!” jumping off the page. The original story by Mark Hackman is brought to life by the choreography of Jessica Deahr, the sound design of several DJs, and the dance of almost thirty people in a must-see show."

"... Written by company director Mark Hackman and choreographed by Jessica Deahr, Gotham City blends different styles of dance—and music—from hip hop to ballet to break dance to capoeira (Brazilian martial arts) and acrobatics (plus the most fitting use of dubstep if there ever was one), all giving the real feel of a diverse city after dark. The audience is seated on a round, never more than three rows away, making you feel like part of the action, just steps away from danger."

"...I loved each and every character and felt drawn into the movements. This is a hot show that should be seen by everyone. Be prepared to be inspired if by nothing else than a yearning to bend and move like these artists. Put down the ice cream and go see this show. It’s hot fun in the summertime on Randolph!"

"...From lights down, this show crushes it! Lighting Designers Mike Goebel and Joshua Paul Weckesser deliver drama in shadows and spotlights. The heart-pounding score is an eclectic (Ludacris to Danny Kaye) collection edited and compiled by DJ Johnny Romano, Mikey Rioux, DanQwan Gibson, Dopples 3000, and DJ Ganger. It’s the perfect soundtrack for this dangerous war zone. Costumes, makeup and even tattoos (designed by Laura Maceika) are a cross between ordinary street clothes, gangster garb and circus attire. This futuristic look is casual demented chic. The whole vibe is comic book graphic. The design team definitely get us into the city limits and the dancers hold us captive for the duration."
