"... Considering its unnecessarily long running time, not much happens in Sherwood’s drama; both characters mostly just ask the same rhetorical questions over and over again. The playwright works within a trinity of obvious metaphors: Fire is Jacob’s rage, a drought is the town’s lack of faith, Abigail is a wounded bird. The entire show feels like repackaged material from other scripts."

"... This is a play of dialogue and laying bare the soul’s motivations. It clocks in at two hours but the writing, acting, and direction make the time glide by. The tempo and emotional steam recall Tennessee Williams’ 27 Wagons of Cotton, which was made into the movie “Baby Doll”. Jacob and Abigail are people on a mission that they believe will bring redemption or justice. The South as a character is so familiar to me as a child of the Great Migration. The petty resentments and fundamentalism are real and can be as dangerous as gasoline in a drought. This is really good theater – Devil May Care deserves a full house every night."
