Rosemont Theatre
5400 N. River Rd. Rosemont

Set on a tropical island during World War II, the musical tells the sweeping romantic story of two couples -- US Navy nurse Nellie Forbush and French plantation owner Emile de Becque and Navy Airman Joe Cable and a young local native girl Liat -- and how their happiness is threatened by the realities of war and by their own prejudices. Considered by many the finest musical ever written, the score’s songs include such classics as “Some Enchanted Evening,” “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair,” “Younger Than Springtime,” “Bali Ha’i,” “There is Nothin’ Like A Dame,” “This Nearly Was Mine” and “A Wonderful Guy.”

  Review Round-Up

Chicago Tribune - Highly Recommended

"...in Bartlett Sher’s transcendently restorative revival of this magnificent piece of theatrical art, you won’t miss what actor Gerry Becker does with this moment. It might not seem like much — a slight pause in the middle of the line, a slight catch in the throat — but it makes an ocean of difference because it makes you see a captain who is thankful for his men, which makes you thankful for the service of others, which makes you understand that the American story you are watching is, well, a story of timeless emotional truths. Steadstyle Chicago - Highly Recommended

"...David Pittsinger's lustrous bass baritone is so mesmerizing it nearly takes your breath away. And you will surely fall head over heels in love with Carmen Cusack's "little hick" Nellie Forbush. The commanding Keala Settle makes Bloody Mary into something of a Tonkinese Mother Courage, while Matthew Saldivar nicely underplays the comical wheeler dealer seabee Luther Billis. Everything about Director Bartlett Sher's production speaks luxury, and those Chicagoans lucky enough to squeeze it into their busy holiday schedule are no doubt in for a musical and dramatic treat."
