"...Liuzzo's story is moving, but Nessler's play aims to do much more, giving us a sprawling, multifaceted plot line also featuring the saga of Leroy (Eric Gerard) and his mother, Jessie (Shariba Rivers), African-Americans committed to living in the south long after the rest of their family has moved north. Perhaps because of this, the work could use some editing; still, there's much that's effective here, especially the inclusion of documentary bits such as Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech from Selma and the searing vocals of Nina Simone and Billie Holiday."
