Miracle On South Division Street at Theatre At The Center

"...I suppose there have been more underwhelming or less plausible shows at the Theatre at the Center over the past 15 or so years. But offhand, I can't think of any. Tom Dudzick's "Miracle on South Division Street" moves at a glacial pace through the first act and turns into soap opera in the second act. Or at least it would turn into a soap opera if anything actually happened. As it is, Dudzick's drama - and I use that term loosely - is almost wholly reliant on exposition. In his credulity-straining plot, crucial events are primarily related by some form of narration rather than any actual action."

"...Along this quirky journey there are some laughs but when the ‘truth’ of the origin of the statue and grandpa’s past in Poland is revealed (I’ll not spoil that), the entire bases if the family causes chaos leading to the most preposterous plot twist. If you found out that you family was something different than what you thought, i.e. ethnicity and religion, would you simply abandon your lifelong beliefs and embrace your new found ancestry? I doubt it."

"...Directed to perfection by William Pullinsi, who has a knack for comedy that is very original in his understanding of how the smallest thing on a stage can make an impact on an audience. This is a play filled with life’s little surprises and a wonderfu diversion for the stress in our eveyday lives. The set ( Jeff Bauer) is a very nice home and Brenda Winsted’s costumes are fitting, the lighting by Shelly Strasser-Holland, the sound by Barry g. Funderburg and the props ( of which there are many) by Ann N. Davis complete the picture."
