"...Perhaps "Mine" is a horrifying thriller involving the possibility of alien abductions. Perhaps it's just a portrait of postpartum depression. Maybe it's a study of why some women end up hurting their babies. Maybe it's an elaborate metaphor for how a mother's natural feelings of ambivalence toward the life-sucking being that suddenly has taken over her life have no means of polite expression in a society that idealizes parenting and scorns those who find the whole thing overwhelming. You're never quite sure, which is the idea. And thus you watch the piece with a mounting sense of dread, your empathy for these characters notwithstanding"

"...Mine displays a balanced mix of qualities both haunting and sympathetic. There's no doubt the show deals with troubling subject matter, but it's also equally fascinating - a horrific case study in psychological uncertainty and mental instability. But perhaps scariest of all are the rarely discussed, unexpected feelings that come along with new parenthood - no matter how prepared you might be."

"...Clemens convincingly embodies Mari's baby-doubt and self-doubt, and Blakewell, an actress whose off-kilter mien I've long found compelling, brings that bearing to her characterization of Amy. Unfortunately, the scenes between the two highlight a slack energy in Marti Lyons's production that also permeates Clemens's interactions with the rest of her world. There are a lot of of interesting elements here, but like Mari and her baby, they just can't seem to bond."

"...One of two things is happening onstage at The Gift Theatre. Either Mari, the young mother of playwright Laura Marks’s Mine, is suffering a severe psychotic breakdown, or Mari’s newborn infant child has actually been kidnapped by faery folk and replaced in the dead of night with a ‘changeling’ child. And although Marks’s spends considerable time teasingly going back and forth on the question, by the end of Mine, we’re not convinced it even matters."

"...Laura Marks new play, “Mine”, presented by the Gift Theatre, is an intense psychological thriller that will pull your heartstrings and keep you on the edge of your seat. It probes the gamut of deep emotions and connections that develop after childbirth and delves into the impact they have on relationships and well being."

"...The talented five-member ensemble all bring honesty to their roles, thanks to Marti Lyons' superb direction. The natural, conversational quality of the production makes the characters seem like old friends, which only serves to further point up the horror. Abetted by an original score and sound design by Christopher Kriz and Stephen Carmody's stylish, economically flexible set, this is a must-see for audiences looking for an unusual and engrossing evening of theatre."

"...Yes, we've seen this story before -- it's the classic fear. Am I a bad mother? How do I love something that might not be mine? Even: is my baby a changeling? From Ms. Farrow to Ms. Jolie, it's a theme of great drama and weight. But playwright Marks does something bold and takes the play into deeply disturbing, new psychological territory. Marni meets someone on the park bench who confirms her deep-down fear. And it's not what anyone expects."
