Mary Poppins Reviews
Chicago Tribune- Highly Recommended
"...Good for Paramount and Rockwell. It's all in service of a big family night out, a show at which a young girl can dress up (as many did Sunday night) and feel like the show has respected her effort. This production, which has a big heart, delivers all of that to the good people of the western suburbs and, frankly, my favorite moment of the night was the warmth of the applause that came from the balcony as Mary made her l-o-n-g flight, all the way to the cheap seats at the back of the house. The best moments in theater always are delivered in person, ideally right in the laps of the paying customers."

"...Directed and choreographed by Rachel Rockwell (whose previous productions include “Annie,” “In the Heights” and “42nd Street” at the Paramount and “Brigadoon” at the Goodman Theatre), this “Mary Poppins” is a superb mix of grand spectacle and familiar songs. And while it never shrinks from the essentially dark story it spins, it also never fails to elicit all the essential laughs and sense of magic."

"...The magic and mystic of Mary Poppins (is she myth or an angel from heaven?) is deftly played by Emily Rohm while Matt Crowle’s Bert guides us through the journey of the Banks family’s awakening with panache. We are totally engrossed and richly rewarded having spent a few hours in Poppins’ world where anything can happen if you take a spoonful of sugar. Mary Poppins is the best musical never to have won a Tony Award! After seeing this beautiful, infectious musical for the fourth time, I can state that the creatives at Paramount Theatre under the leadership of Jim Corti and Rachel Rockwell, have created the most stunning production of this fine show. The song “Practically Perfect” aptly defines this magnificent work."

"...Oh, it's a "Jolly Holliday" with Mary and well worth the drive to Aurora to see the spectacular production that they are presenting for this Holiday Season, "Mary Poppins". The Disney film has been transported to a live theatrical production many times- Broadway touring, of course and recently at one of the other regional theaters, but the space at The Paramount Theatre in Aurora allows the magic of what the story is all about to be seen with wide open eyes by the audiences that will partake of their special helping of Holiday Cheer through January 4th."

"...This is the regional production of Disney’s beloved classic that Chicagoland has been waiting to see. It equals, perhaps even surpasses, the touring production that visited here not too long ago. Rachel Rockwell has created a spectacular, magical, musical production filled with so much heart and local talent, both on and off the stage. Besides being a highly entertaining spectacle for the family, “that Poppins woman” offers a special reminder of some very important life lessons, as well. Paramount has outdone itself, mounting one stunning, “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” Christmas stocking stuffed to the brim with joy and love."
