Eugene Onegin

Eugene Onegin

Lyric Opera
20 N. Wacker Drive Chicago

The mastermind behind beloved ballet classics like Swan Lake and The Nutcracker makes audiences swoon at another hugely acclaimed work, Eugene Onegin. Composed in 1878, Tchaikovsky's lyric opera was one of the first of its kind to have dramatic music added and follows the story of a selfish hero and a young woman's love. Based on the Pushkin novel, it portrays the life of Onegin, a dashing and worldly gentleman who comes to regret his blase rejection of impressionable country girl, as well as his careless incitement of a fatal duel with his best friend. Grammy Award winner Ana María Martínez and Seattle Opera 2006 Artist of the Year Mariusz Kwiecien lead this richly layered piece at Chicago's Civic Opera House.
