Wharton Center Theatre Productions at the Wharton Center for Performing Arts on the campus of Michigan State University in East Lansing, is casting Lungs by Duncan Macmillan. The show will be produced and directed by Bert Goldstein. Lungs tells the story of a young couple grappling with the decision to have a baby in a midst of environmental turmoil and their own ambivalence about becoming parents.

This is a two character play requiring actors with a solid background of experience to hold the stage together for 90 minutes. Casting is completely color blind. All interested and qualified actors are encouraged to submit their photo/resumes for casting. AEA and non-AEA actors (AEA contract TBD in September)

General auditions and callbacks will be held on the same day.

Pay: All actors will receive weekly salary, travel to East Lansing and housing per AEA regulations.

Seeking:
W - woman, early 30s. Struggling with where she is in her life and the thought of having a baby. Requires strong emotional range to handle her insecurities, humor, fear, drive vulnerability, quirkiness and love for her partner. Role requires high energy actress with comic and emotional timing along with ability to handle rapid fire dialogue.

M- man, early 30s, desperately wants to be a father and works hard to overcome the obstacles. Emotionally available and employs a wide range. Deeply conflicted about his love for W and the need to have a child in his life. At times strong but also wrestles with his imperfections and confusion about life in general.

Time Commitment:

First rehearsal in East Lansing on or around January 23rd, 2018. Opens on February 15, 2018 and closes on February 18. Daytime rehearsals.

Material To Prepare:

Actors will be asked to perform a contemporary monologue. Actors invited to call backs will read from the script.
