Description:

The Prop Thtr in association with Pop Magic Productions presents "The Other Sarah Bernhardt" Written & Directed by Olivia Lilley, Choreographed by Kelly Anderson We are seeking four actor/dancers for this production, as well as one understudy. This production will be devised starting with a basic premise, so we are seeking performers who are comfortable with generating phrases as well as physical and vocal improvisation. A script will be written out of the material generated in rehearsal. The dance moments will also be created in this manner, in addition to set movement material provided by the choreographer.

First round auditions will take place Sunday July 9th 4pm - 9pm @ The Prop Thtr, 3502 N. Elston. Callbacks will be July 16th 4pm - 9pm @ The Prop Thtr as well.

The Roles: 4 total

Eleanora / Aspiring Entrepreneur (1)... female identified, early 20's to mid 30's, any race or ethnicity, Eleanora Duse was known in her time as the mystic of the theatre. George Bernard Shaw proclaimed her the greatest actress to have ever lived. Our aspiring entrepreneur is a character you will create who's trying to decide whether or not to take a cushy corporate job or take that leap into the unknown of being a small business owner.

Close friends of the aspiring Entrepreneur / All of the various characters who populate Eleanora's life such as Isadora Duncan, Sarah Bernhardt, tragic devious poet boys, opportunistic managers, etc (3).... accepting all female, male, and gender queer individuals, open to all races, ethnicities, identities, We are looking for performers who are physically transformative, have the capabilities of portraying a wide variety of roles. We are looking to cast 3 people and 1 understudy.

Synopsis:
In the Fall of 2017, a mid 20 something office worker contemplates trading in her comfortable corporate existence for the life of an entrepreneur. In an attempt to influence her decision, her friends tell her the story of Eleanora Duse, a great actress, if not the greatest, of the late 19th century theatrical world. Eleanora Duse forged her own destiny on her own terms despite her age's definition of what a woman should be. This glorious saga of ambition, success, and the battle for your right to be who you are comes to magnificent life through visual sequences, heart-racing moments of dance, and brash, telling scenes.

October 27th - December 9th, 2017 (with a possible extension through December 30th)
Fridays & Saturdays @ 10:30pm

Rehearsals begin Monday July 17th.
Rehearsals will take place during the day on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 9am to noon @ About Face, 5252 N. Broadway in July and August / The Prop Thtr, 3502 N. Elston in September and October

Material To Prepare:

Acting portion: Two contrasting monologues. 1 contemporary comedic and 1 contemporary dramatic. Both monologues 2 minutes or less.

Dance portion: The initial dance portion of the audition will focus primarily on composition and choreography. Performers will be offered a description of characters found in the play. This portion of the audition will be lead by Olivia Lilley. These character descriptions will be the source material for movement generation by the artists. Artists are asked to explore the creative phrase material through an abstract lens and are encouraged to play with timing, quality, levels and their relationship to space. Please wear movement clothes. Please be aware that we will be recording this portion of the audition for internal use.
