MadKap Productions is pleased to present the Midwest Premiere of Mark Saltzman's play "Rocket City, Alabam'". In the 50's at the dawn of the Cold War, the U.S. Army moves notorious Nazi rocket scientist Wernher Von Braun to Huntsville, Alabama, a cotton town selected to become America's "Rocket City." But Huntsville has a large Jewish community, and emotions ignite when the Jewish fiancee of a local war hero learns of Von Braun's Nazi past. With senstivity and humor. Rocket City, Alabam' presents the moral dilemmas of idealism vs. practicality, of revenge vs. forgiveness. Rocket City, Alabam' is a play with songs that captures a true-life episode in the history of the American South, presenting a story of secrets, colorful Southern characters, and several famous songs of the region -- blues, spirituals and gospel including "Down By the Riverside," "Alabama Bound," "This Little Light of Mine" and many more.

NOTE: Audition for Israel - must play 3 songs: one in the style of Robert Johnson, one in the style of Mahalia Jackson and one in the style of southern blues...

NOTE: Of the character men and women - we are looking for all ages and types.... Since this is a rewritten and relatively "new" work", we will be taking the liberty of changing the above listed characters as required to suit the play.

Time Commitment:

Rehearsals begin Mid-September. Production Opens November 3, 2017 and runs for 3 weekends.

One Minute Monologue Israel - please prepare at least two songs in two different styles: blues, southern folk, gospel.
