The astonishing true story of Albert Cashier, a Civil War soldier with a secret that resonates with our modern world from 150 years in the past. Feautring book by GLAAD-nominated writer/producer Jay Paul Deratany and music & lyrics by acclaimed folk musician and trans artist Joe Stevens and Emmy-nominated writer/director Keaton Wooden. Produced by Jay Paul Deratany and Emmy Award-winning Producer/Casting Director Robert Ulrich of The GLEE Project, with Associate Producer Christopher Pazdernik. Casting will be attended by Keaton Wooden, Jay Deratany, & Christopher Pazdernik. Auditions will also be filmed for viewing by additional production staff. Roles Available:
OLD ALBERT CASHIER Stage Age: ​Sixties to Seventies Vocal Range:​ High Tenor/Alto A retired war hero, Albert is female-born, masculine person who lived as male. The performer will be a masculine, female bodied person, and sing in an alto range. Some fight choreography is required, as well as brief nudity (though not explicit).

JEFFREY N. DAVIS Stage Age: ​Late Teens, Early Twenties (aged in Act 2 to sixties) Vocal Range: ​Tenor Jeffrey is the son of a rich farmer, now soldier, who is both verbose and eager to make friends. He is in awe of Albert's confidence, and eventually develops feelings for Albert that he doesn't know what to do with. The role of Jeffrey has comedic elements, but is also full of deep desire. WALTER "SAWBONES"

SUITER Stage Age: ​Late Teens, Early Twenties Vocal Range: ​Baritone Walter is a free African-American doctor in the Civil War. Walter's ambition is to live where men can live without assumption, based on their work and their impact and not on the assumed roles men play.

SERGEANT COLLINS Stage Age: ​Late Forties Vocal Range: ​Baritone A gruff, demanding officer who takes pride in his recruits. He is not vindictive or angry. He leads by example, and believes everything he says. The finest soldier one can imagine, with perhaps a hint too much enthusiasm.

BILLY MIDDLETON Stage Age: ​Late Teens, Early Twenties Vocal Range: ​Baritone Ambitious, excitable, and arrogant. Billy acts proud and rashly, like he's going to get himself killed.

DR. JAMES KIRBY Stage Age: ​Late Forties Vocal Range: ​Baritone Kirby is a professional, and discreet. He discovered Albert's secret decades ago, and rather than tell the authorities, decided to treat his patient instead. His voice is gentle, he cares for those he loves, and defends them with warm assertiveness, even bluntness.

ATTENDANT JOE O'CONNER Stage Age: ​Late Teens, Early Twenties Vocal Range: ​Baritone A young, priggish man with a distinct southern accent. Cannot stand Union Soldiers at the retirement home and has a streak of cruelty.

ATTENDANT JOHN CURTIS Stage Age: ​Late Teens, Early Twenties Vocal Range: ​Tenor Closeted, effeminate, and caring of others. He doesn't fit in with the hospital. This role requires strong dancing and singing. He is not flamboyant, but rather inspired and energetic. Also casting a small ensemble of officers and soldiers.

Material To Prepare:

2 contrasting 16 bar selections with sheet music: 1 standard Broadway song and 1 contemporary/folksy song to show off personality and vocal skills. Sides will be provided for callbacks.
