In 1892, Lizzie Borden was the primary suspect for her father and stepmother's brutal murder. Though eventually acquitted, Lizzie became a tabloid sensation-and the most controversial figure of her time. Did she do it? And if so, why? LIZZIE imagines the story behind the legend with a cast of four women and a driving rock score, melding this infamous 19th century story with a modern-day twist.

Character Descriptions:

[LIZZIE BORDEN] Early to late 20s; rock mezzo with strong high mix belt and head voice. The younger daughter of the Borden household, accused of her father and stepmother's axe murders. Extremely vulnerable and damaged, she can turn on a dime from fragile, broken, meek and obedient to conniving, sinister, furious, and terrifying.

[ALICE RUSSELL] Mid 20s to mid 30s; pop/rock soprano with strong mix. Lizzie's next door neighbor who visits frequently. Seductive and secretive, with an almost maternal tenderness in her affections for Lizzie.

[EMMA BORDEN] Mid 20s to mid 30s; rock alto/mezzo belt. Lizzie's older sister. Resentful of her father's marriage to his second wife and his financial support of her family. Protective, outspoken, and commanding. Furious, but also desperately sad.

[BRIDGET SULLIVAN] Late 20s to early 40s; rock mezzo. The Borden family maid of several years and occasional show narrator. Irish; speaks and sings in dialect. Clever with a dry and dark sense of humor. A rock and roll nihilist. Not much gets past her.
