MIDWEST PREMIERE of The Oregon Trail, Written by Bekah Brunstetter and Directed by Claire Reinhart.
It's 1997 and Jane is trapped in her middle school computer lab playing "The Oregon Trail" for what feels like hours. The game becomes life and rips her back to the trail, 1848, where she travels in a covered wagon with her great-great grandmother. As the game transitions from past to present and back again, Now-Jane's and Then-Jane's sadnesses are delicately juxtaposed in this play-meets-video game about depression, Then and Now.
Jane, 13, an angsty loner who is growing into her body in a bad way/ 24, a contemporary young lady, prone to sadness
Mary Anne, 17, Jane's sister. She's effortlessly pretty, seemingly perfect, and a bit manic/ 28, she is slightly OCD, a violinist
Billy, 16 the hottest pre-pubescent guy in school/ 27, has grown a gut and a deep awareness of the reality of all things
Then Jane, a young girl traversing the country with her family, via the Oregon Trail
Then Mary Anne, her seemingly perfect sister (*played by contemporary Mary Anne)
Clancy, Then Jane and Mary Anne's father
MIDWEST PREMIERE of De Troya, Written by Caridad Svich and Directed by Rinska Carrasco-Prestinary. A mysteriously wounded girl washes on shore and meets young Mara on the riverbank. Worried sisters Lupe and Lena wonder if tonight is the night that their niece will disappear without a trace. Nostalgic Horacio drives his restless grandson away with another rambling story from his childhood. Boiling under the surface of a violent city, two families wrestle with rebellion, regret, and loss of faith. De Troya is an urban mythical tale about how the weight of our memories can create an insatiable longing for salvation.
