Description:

This is the story of Marion Kroft, an aging former child film actor turned variety show star in the 1950s who is desperate to get back into pictures. When a new young dancer comes into her life they become fast friends and a smash comedy duo, but the truth behind their partnership is questionable.

We believe in inclusive casting. We welcome all actors who would like to audition to tell this story.

MARION KROFT (35+) An Imogene Coca/Judy Garland hybrid. Sings. Stage kiss. Light stage combat.

HARRIET HOULIHAN (18-25) Hopeful young dancer. Marion Kroft's biggest fan. Strong comic timing, must be able to dance. Must be able to carry a tune. Light stage combat.

GIL ST. JAMES (30+) A Sid Caesar type role. Strong physical comedy skills.

SAM (30+) Stage manager of The Marion Kroft show. Marion's love interest. Grounds her. Stage kiss.

KIT (20-28) A Page. Sam's right hand man. Earnest and reliable.

DOTTIE (40+) Wardrobe mistress and long time friend of Marion's.

ANNOUNCER (30+) Guides us through the show with 1950s radio ads.

BETTY, LOIS, & SHIRLEY (18-25) Dancers on the Marion Kroft show. Good comic timing and Dance skills. Must be able to carry a tune.

BYRON BERMAN (40+) Head of Programming. Stereotypical 1950s show biz exec.

EVELYN ARNOLD (35+) Former actress turned gossip columnist

NEVILLE GAINES (35+) Suave, movie studio exec. Additional actors will be cast to create an ensemble.

Auditions will be held at The Factory Theater 1623 W. Howard

Time Commitment:

Rehearsals begin January 24th. Previews begin March 17th Opening March 24th Closing April 29th Rehearses weekday nights and weekend days. This theatre is part of the Statement of Intention Pilot Group (SOIPG), which seeks to strengthen an atmosphere wherein communication, safety, respect, and accountability are high priorities, as is the health, safety, and well-being of Chicago theaters and artists therein.

Material To Prepare:

Sides will be provided. Actors auditioning for Marion, Harriet, Betty, Lois, and Shirley are asked to sing an acapella piece of an upbeat period appropriate song of their choosing (example: Mr. Sandman). Callbacks for these roles may require a brief dance call.
