Auditions for "The Buttcracker: A Nutcracker Burlesque" will be held on Sunday, August 14th from 10am-5pm at The Cuckoo's Theatre Project space, located at 7077 N Ashland, Chicago IL 60626.
A twist on the original ballet, this one-night only performance will highlight the world of burlesque, boylesque, drag, magic, sword balancing, hoop dancers, fire performers, flamenco and more, as the audience follows Clara and her Buttcracker from a mundane Christmas party to the Land of Sweets, orchestrated by the Dark Magician Drosselmeyer. It's one part ballet, one part variety show, and an altogether alternative holiday experience.

CASTING FOR:
Clara - Curious and imaginative, but bored with the mundane life.
Drosselmeyer - A magician and a drug dealer.
The Buttcracker/Prince - A hallucination.
Residents of the Land of the Sweets, including but not limited to, Soldiers, Rats with Racks, a Rack King (or Queen), Flowers, Snowflakes, the Sugar Bum Fairy and her Cavalier, Mother Ginger and her million children, Various Exotic Dancers (Russia, China, Arabia, Spain)

SPECIFIC TALENTS SOUGHT:
Burlesque, boylesque, fan dancing, Flamenco, sword balancing, fire dancing/breathing, Drag, physical comedy, gymnasts, jugglers, magicians, hoop dancers, aerialists, etc. Experience with stage combat a plus but not necessary.Previous technical dance experience for The Buttcracker and ensemble a must, particularly in modern and ballet.
Rehearsals will begin in October. Tech will be DAYTIME November 30th and December 1st. No rehearsals Thanksgiving. Solo and some duet numbers will be created by individual dancers/pairs under special licensing agreement, with guidance of the choreographer and director. Larger ensemble numbers choreographed by the choreographer.Performance will be at Uptown Underground on Friday, December 2nd, 2016, at 8pm.
Please bring a fully polished act in your discipline to audition (a magic act, a burlesque act, a hoop dance number, etc.) that does not exceed 3 minutes. (Note: aerialists and fire performers, please submit a performance video as we will not have aerial rigging/fire in the audition space. Please note, fire performers must have own insurance.)
