Gallery Theater will hold auditions for the Tennessee Williams play The Glass Menagerie on December 7th from 4 to 6, 8th from 6:30 to 8pm, 11th (callbacks, if needed). Menagerie was Williams's first popular success and launched the brilliant, if somewhat controversial, career of our pre-eminent lyric playwright. Since its premiere in Chicago in 1944, with the legendary Laurette Taylor in the role of Amanda, the play has been the bravura piece for great actresses from Jessica Tandy to Joanne Woodward, and is studied and performed in class The Glass Menagerie was Williams's first popular success and launched his brilliant, if somewhat controversial, career, giving us a family whose lives form a triangle of quiet desperation. The play is set in the late 1930's.

The director is looking for the following cast...

Amanda Wingfield: a proud woman fiercely devoted to her children; still holds onto the ideals of her genteel southern upbringing;...looking for a female age range 46-56

Laura Wingfield, Amanda's Daughter): sensitive; shy; a childhood illness has left her physically impaired; retreats from reality through her collection of glass figurines...looking for a female age range 20-26.

Tom Wingfield, Amanda's son: ...narrator of the play...a poet who works in a warehouse to support his family, but longs to escape. Looking for a male in late 20's.

Jim O'Connor: Tom's lone friend at the warehouse and former classmate of Laura's; a nice guy; pleasant in appearance and demeanor... Looking for a male age range 20-26

Auditions will be held at Gallery Theater, 203 Turner Court, West Chicago.

Time Commitment:

Rehearsals begin the first week of January. The play opens February 26 and runs for two weekends.

Material To Prepare:

There will be cold readings from the script. Monologues are not necessary, but are encouraged.
