Announcing non-Equity auditions for Citadel Theatre's production of "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," directed by Robert D. Estrin. Written by Larry Gelbart, Burt Shevelove and Stephen Sondheim, "Forum" is a bawdy musical farce based on the works of the ancient Roman playwright Plautus and winner of the 1963 Tony Award for Best Musical. All roles are open.

MEN:
PSEUDOLUS (40s and up), wily and resourceful slave to Hero;

HYSTERIUM (40s and up), anxious and toady chief slave;

SENEX (late 40s and up), henpecked and sardonic head of the household;

HERO (early 20s), the juvenile, a virgin;

MARCUS LYCUS (40s and up), the local purveyor of courtesans, sleazy and monetarily motivated;

MILES GLORIOSUS (mid 20s-early 30s), handsome, full-of-himself Roman solider, he is a parade;

ERRONIUS (60s and up), a befuddled old man in search of his kidnapped children;

PROTEANS (3) (20s and up), play multiple characters and act as the male ensemble.

WOMEN:
DOMINA (late 40s and up), vain and domineering wife of Senex;

PHILIA (early 20s), the ingenue, a virgin;

COURTESANS (6) (20s and up), courtesans in the house of Marcus Lycus, each with a distinctive talent, also act as the female ensemble.

For the role of GYMNASIA (Courtesan), I'm looking for a tall imposing woman. For the roles of GEMINAE (Courtesans), I'm looking for twins.

PLEASE NOTE: these auditions will be held in conjunction with Citadel's production of "Oliver!" Please see the audition notice for "Oliver!" for details regarding that production.

Pay: Stipend + possible gas allowance.

Time Commitment:

Performances are April 22-May 22, 2016. Performances are Thursday-Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Two Wednesday matinee performances will be scheduled, date/time TBA. Rehearsals will begin in March, 2016.

Material To Prepare:

A 60-second contemporary monologue and 32 bars from a song of your choice. An accompanist will be provided. IMPORTANT: No classical monologues. PLEASE DO NOT CHOOSE A MONOLOGUE OR SONG FROM EITHER "OLIVER!" OR "FORUM." Audition Hint: both musicals are from the Golden Age of Musicals, so you may want to take that into consideration when choosing a song.
