Description:

Announcing non-Equity auditions for Citadel Theatre's production of Lionel Bart's "Oliver!," directed by Pat Murphy. Based on Charles Dickens' classic tale of Victorian London, "Oliver!" won three Tony Awards in 1963, including the Tony for Lionel Bart's timeless score. All roles are open. NO CHILDREN WILL BE AUDITIONED AT THIS TIME. Separate auditions will be held in September for the children's roles and the children's ensemble. Cast will number about 30. Main ADULT character breakdown is as follows:

WOMEN:
NANCY: in her 20's, good singer, pretty and strong-willed, former gang member;

WIDOW CORNEY: domineering widow in her 50's;

MRS. SOWERBERRY: shrewish wife of the undertaker;

CHARLOTTE: sexy, teaser, daughter of the Sowerberrys;

MRS. BEDWIN: Brownlow's kindly housekeeper;

**PLUS additional smaller roles in ensemble.**

MEN:
MR. BUMBLE: large, pompous man in his 50's;

FAGIN: sly, but charming, old guy who has his band of thieving boys;

MR. SOWERBERRY: creepy undertaker;

NOAH CLAYPOLE: young (20-ish), bully apprentice of Mr. Sowerberry;

BILL SYKES: big, menacing presence, cruel;

MR. BROWNLOW: kindly, sophisticated upper class gentleman, grandfatherly;

DR. GRIMWIG: slightly pompous doctor;

**PLUS a number of roles selected from ensemble.**

*AGAIN-NO CHILDREN WILL BE AUDITIONED AT THIS TIME! PLEASE NOTE: these auditions will be held in conjunction with Citadel's production of "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum." Please see the audition notice for "Forum" for details regarding that production.

Pay: Stipend + possible gas allowance.

Time Commitment:

Performances are November 20 - December 20, 2015, with the possibility of a one-week extension. Performances are Thursday-Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Two Wednesday matinee performances will be scheduled, date/time TBA. Rehearsals will begin mid-September, 2015.

Material To Prepare:

A 60-second contemporary monologue and 32 bars from a song of your choice. An accompanist will be provided. IMPORTANT: No classical monologues. PLEASE DO NOT CHOOSE A MONOLOGUE OR SONG FROM EITHER "OLIVER!" OR "FORUM." Audition Hint: both musicals are from the Golden Age of Musicals, so you may want to take that into consideration when choosing a song.
