Description:

Join our narrator, Jack, as he takes us through some of the darkest days of his life; all while having a manic episode. In a flurry of tangents, this play shows us the darkest fears and anxieties of a young bisexual college freshman waiting fervently for the results of an HIV test. With 1059 miles to go until he reaches his Summer Camp haven, find out what will become of our hero, Jack

Character Descriptions:
Jack: 18, male. A bisexual college freshman who is concerned about the results of an HIV test, and this concern manifests itself in a manic episode over a 3-day car trip.

Gabe: 19, male. Jack's best friend from camp, also bisexual, who accompanies Jack for most of the trip. He is unconditionally supportive, until he can't be. Also plays a nurse in the second act.

Narrator: Any age and gender. "Future Jack." Tells Jack's story and interacts with Jack as an omniscient narrator. Lots of movement work and some stage combat.

Actress 1: 40s-50s, female. Plays Jack's mother, Gabe's mother, the Camp director's wife, and Jack's former theatre teacher.

Actress 2: 20s, female. Plays a nurse, a doctor, Gabe's aunt, and several of Jack's peers and acquaintances.

Actor A: 40s-50s, male. Plays Jack's father, Gabe's father, and a clerk at a rest stop.

Actor in the Glass Box: Any age and gender. Symbolic of Jack's struggle and the play's struggle to break free. Trapped inside a "glass" box during most of the first act. Also plays a police officer in the second act. Lots of movement and some stage combat.

Time Commitment:

Rehearsals will be weekday evenings (Monday-Thursday, usually 8:00-11:00PM) at Gorilla Tango Theatre. Tech schedules for the Gorilla Tango and Chicago Fringe Festival are to be announced.

The show dates for Gorilla Tango Theatre are August 20, 21, 27, and 28 at 7:30PM, including August 22 and 29 at 2:30PM. Our three show dates for the Chicago Fringe Festival will be announced in July. The festival runs from September 3-13.

Material To Prepare:

For the audition, please prepare 30-second cuts of three different contrasting monologues. The purpose of this is to see how quickly you can shift from different emotional states.

Callbacks will feature a movement activity and cold readings of scenes from the play.
