Lion in Winter

Pay: Stipend

Description:

MadKap productions is holding auditions for Lion in Winter. Henry and Eleanor have been cast.

Alais Capet: (Must look early 20s.) She was raised by Queen Eleanor and is expected to marry Richard, she is beautiful and genuinely in love with Henry. Everyone underestimates her intellect and her inner strength; she is initially perceived as an innocent pawn, and is capable of surprising ruthlessness. Philip is her brother, but she has lived in England since she was seven, so she does not know him all that well.

John: (Must look between 16-18.) John is Henry and Eleanor’s youngest son. Described in the play as “pimply and smelling of compost,” John is an immature, spoiled brat and Henry’s favorite child. He is weak, fearful and easily manipulated by Geoffrey.

Richard (mid/late 20s): Henry and Eleanor’s eldest surviving son, he has been a famous soldier since he was a teenager and is easily the strongest son of the three princes. Richard is deeply uncomfortable in emotional situations.

Geoffrey (mid-20s): Geoffrey is the middle son and seemingly, still longs for the love of his parents; he is complex and very smart, he can be charming but is also ambitious, amoral, and coldly scheming.

Philip Capet (Must look late teens/early 20s): Philip has been the King of France for three years, he is handsome and manipulative, and learns much from Henry about the personal cost and politics of kingship. In later life, Philip would transform France from a feudal state into a most powerful and prosperous country, equal to both England and Spain.
