In the face of loss, can we still marvel at our place among the stars or must we concede we're little more than fertilizer?Two undergrads, Lucy and Karl, journey through the worlds of Star Trek, physics and family history, on a quest to find significance against cosmic backdrops. Armed with the earnestness of youth, they dig at each other's humanity, trying to discover if anything in all the poetry and mathematics can give us the chance at something more. But are some experiences of the world so different, they forbid the very connections Lucy and Karl are so desperate to make?

Star Trek bucked casting trends in the '60s. We are looking for actors of all backgrounds and physical types.

KARL: Late teens to mid twenties, young college student, library assistant. Prone to day dreams. Carries his grief with gentleness.

LUCY: Late teens to mid twenties, young college physics student. Insatiably curious. Continually tests the limits of the ideas she encounters.

SANDRA: Mid-thirties to mid-forties, KARL's mom. A memory. Has an exuberance for life and questionable parenting tactics.

GENE RODDENBERRY: Creator of Star Trek. Any age. A comedic distraction in LUCY's mind. A bit full of himself.
