Benevolent Theatre's mission is to provide a creative outlet for local artists, and aide in community outreach, growth, and education by bringing awareness to the organizations and individuals that have inspired these artistic works. All work showcased by the company will come from local writers and artists, and will address current social issues, and help develop programs that find solutions.
Benevolent Theatre will be hosting Auditions for our second production, Kander and Eb's KISS OF THE SPIDERWOMAN directed by company co-founder Jessica Harling.
KISS OF THE SPIDERWOMAN is a full length musical with 7 men, and 3 woman. It is about Molina, a homosexual window dresser, who lives in a fantasy world to flee the prison life, the torture, fear and humiliation, and his cellmate Valentin, a Marxist revolutionary. Molina's fantasies center around a vampy diva, Aurora. He loves her in all roles, but one scares him: This role is the spider woman, who kills with her kiss.
We are casting for the following roles:
Valentin (BARRITONE)-African American Male approx 25-35
Mother (SOPRANO)- Caucasian Female approx. 40+
Prisoners- Any race or age over 24
Guards- Any race or age over 24
*All roles will be singing and dancing (experience preferred)*
Sundays 4-8, Mondays 7-10, Tuesdays 7-10, Thursdays 7-10 (specific call times/dates will be scheduled based on actor availability)
First reading is Tuesday, April 14th
Rehearsals begin May 3 and run throughout May and June
TECH begins June 29th
Show runs July 3rd-26th
For auditions, please prepare 1 contemporary dramatic monologue, and 1 song to not exceed 3 minutes- acapella.
