Otherworld Theatre Company is seeking Non-Equity actors for its 2014 - 2015 Season. Auditions will take place on August 24th from 3 PM - 8 PM at Lifeline Theatre, 6912 N. Glenwood Avenue, Chicago, IL 60626. Our casting is open to all ethnicities.

Pay: $40 Stipend with 2 Comp Tickets to the show

THE PLAYS

The Aurora Project by Bella Poynton

The Aurora Project will be performed at Right Brain Project steps from the Irving Park Brown Line stop. Rehearsals start early September at Lifeline Theatre Company. Tech will be the week of November 3rd with Press Preview November 7th and opening night November 8th. Each actor will will receive a $40 stipend for the run with 2 comps throughout the run. Shows will be Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 PM with a 4 PM show on Sunday. No show on Thanksgiving, with two shows on the following Saturday, November 29th at 4 PM and 8 PM respectively. There is a possible two week extenstion into the first two weeks of December that you must be available for in order to be cast in the production.

Synopsis: The Aurora Project follows Constantine- an android indistinguishable from human beings, and Nora, a genetically enhanced female explorer, as they begin their voyage across the uncharted universe. When Nora decides to go against Constantine's wishes and visit a strange new planet, she's quickly infected with an incurable illness. In order to delay losing his only friend to grisly death, Constantine decides to subject them both to the phenomenon of cryo-freeze. Thus, the pair begins a kind of chemical induced time warp, spanning millions of years as they wait for the universe to get smarter, and a cure to Nora's illness to be found.

CHARACTERS

NORA - Human. Female. Early 20's to early 30's. Strong, lively, and intelligent. She has an explorer's soul.

CONSTANTINE - Android. Male. Looks to be in his Early 20's to early 30's. Intelligent and analytical. Inb reality, he is a dangerous machine- highly capable of killing anyone who crosses his path, but his aversion to death makes him come across as the opposite of dangerous. *This actor must be able to strong enough to easily carry Nora/Questry.

THE DESIGNER - Human. Male. Late 30's to early 50's, one of Constantine's makers, and also the spaceship Aurora's hologram program. A father figure, harsh as well as loving.

THE GATEKEEPER - Alien. Female- ageless and timeless, and unnamed force from a distant planet. She can be any age. The Gatekeeper is a member of a civilization many billions of times older than our own. They have the ability to move from one part of the universe to another on a whim. Her understanding of life and that which is important is radically different than Constantine and Nora's.

QUESTRY - Male. Alien. 20's or 30's. A wandering traveler. Whimsical and kind. He is a healer among his own people, but was disheartened at the class system that evolved on his Mission Ship home.

Queen Amarantha will most likely be at CityLit Theatre Company at 1020 W Bryn Mawr Ave, Chicago, IL 60660. Tech is the week of June 1st. Press Preview will be June 5th and with opening night on June 6th. Each actor will receive a $40 stipend with 4 comps throughout the run. Shows will be Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, times TBA. 

This show is highly sexual in nature with some nudity. If you are uncomfortable with portraying sexual fluidity between both men and women, this show is not for you. Stage combat experience is a plus.

SYNOPSIS: Queen Amarantha, the daughter of a barbaric warrior king, tries to emerge from her father's shadow. Uncomfortable with her society's conventional female role, she frequently dresses as a man to freely wander her kingdom. When her enemies destroy her reputation through a manipulated scandal, Amarantha abdicates and runs away from her throne. She leaves the throne to her young and hopelessly weak ward, Roderigo, who becomes a pawn of Amarantha's enemies, particularly her treacherous childhood friend, the Countess Thalia. Now Amarantha must choose between her freedom or saving the kingdom from ruin.

Amarantha: Mid 20s - Mid 30s. A wild, but caged bird. Charismatic.

Rodergio: Mid 20s - Mid 30s. A fanciful wit who enjoys the finer things in life. 

Adrian: Mid 20s - Mid 30s. A charming wandering rogue. Amarantha's lover.

Edra: Mid 20s - Mid 30s. Amarantha's chambermaid and confidant.

Countess Thalia: Mid 20s - Mid 30s. Amarantha's childhood friend who, enduring the murder of her entire family, turns into Amarantha's villianous foe.

Duke of Agar: Mid 30s - Early 60s. One of Amarantha's advisors. A master manipulator. To him, the ends always justify the means.

Please prepare a 2 minute dramatic monologue. Auditions may also consist of sides that will be given out at the audition.
