Theater of the Irreal
Two Short Plays

Pay: No Pay

Description:

Seeking actors for two short 20-minute plays, both centered around themes of doubt and betrayal. Performances will take place the weekend of June 6th in non-traditional, non-theater venues.

Who we are: Two Chicago writers interested in bringing a theater experience to non-theatrical venues. We think it'll be exciting for an audience to experience theater, on the cheap, in a venue where they wouldn't necessarily expect it. We're also obsessed with themed performances, because everybody loves a good motif. And DIY. And magic realism.

Play One:

THIS IS HOW THE WORLD ENDS centers around two young roommates with incredibly different belief systems who may or may not be facing the apocalypse.

We're looking for:

TARA, female, 22, fresh outta college, Christian, an optimist with sardonic tendencies, playful, confident in her own skin, LOUIS's good friend (platonic) and roommate.

LOUIS, male, 22, fresh outta art school (photography), Atheist, pessimist, generally respectful of others but can be mean when insecure, TARA's good friend (platonic) and roommate.

BRIAN, male, 23, trying to get a job in a lab (chem major), but more enthusiastic at this point about being a functioning alcoholic. A sensitive and wholesome person, friend and former classmate to LOUIS and TARA.

Play Two:

THREESOME focuses on a serious live-in relationship where both the partners are lying to each other about the previous events of the night.

We're looking for:

HATTIE, female in late 20s, a slightly melancholic lady who's smarter than she comes across, struggling through a bad head cold (note: actual head cold not required).

JIMMY, male in late 20s, Hattie's boyfriend, arrogant and elusive but still manages to be a good guy, sort of.

SUMMER, female in late 20s, the type of girl who goes to gallery openings alone and hits on the artists.

All actors will receive an honorarium from the performance cover charges-we wish we could pay you more, but you'll walk away with something. And we're on the lookout for a videographer to film the performances, so that everyone can use the material for their reel. Other than that, we can promise champagne, applause, and artistic fulfillment-the three greatest things in life.

Time Commitment:

Rehearsals will begin week of May 6th, and we'll do our best to work around everyone's schedules.

Contact Info:

To be considered, please send headshot, resume, and a reel-if you have one, along with any other information you think would be relevant. Auditions TBD; if we love you we might just ask for your hand in (theatrical) marriage over the internet, like a smooth OKCupid paramour.
